Do women or men make better bosses?

I realize you can't generalize when it comes to gender, you can find good and bad in both of them.  I was just curious what everyone's experiences have been when it comes to management, if you've have a better experience with a man versus a woman.

In your experience, who have been the better bosses?  Did your experiences differ when it came to the position you were in, the career path you were on, or whether you had children at the time or were childless?

I was asked my opinion like everyone and spoke from experience. I have actually have had 8 women bosses in the past 25 years with whom I used my experience from.

I happen to think that men and women are equally emotional. Even my hubby, who's experience far exceeds my own, has commented on different bosses over the years, and we have both been surprised by how emotional the majority of men have been, and how unemotional the women have been. My use of the terms emotional and unemotional are relative to stereotypes.

I have had both men and women in the last 25 years so I am going by my experience. Wasn't that the original question? Lol

What does it mean to be "emotional?" Does it affect job performance?

Peachy, the worst boss I had was a guy. One time he called a staff meeting, and then spent the entire (long) meeting telling us all about his addiction problems, his recent stint in rehab and how all this related to his childhood, tears flowing and everything. Maybe he thought staff=on demand AA meeting?

I am female, and presumably you are too. Do you think that because of that, we would both perform your job exactly the same way? Or my job?

And I'll re-ask Bord's question: what does emotional mean to you, and do you feel that it hampers with job performance?

I had wonderful female managers in my banking years, In one branch we were like family. I don't remember seeing the manager around a lot (her days were filled with meetings and other off-site things!) but she was always back by the end of the day and to help us close. I've not had much experience with male bosses but DH is a boss and he's a pretty good one or so I've been told, He's likely to get less caught up in office drama than women, There was actually an incident last Summer that took the cake but he just told the female employee who had differences with another female employee that they could hash it out in the conference room if it was free, Lol. On another note, "boss" and all the muck that it implies can lead to inflated egos and while I am NOT dismissing that men are full of it women are equally caught up in it if not more and I think that's a measure a good boss from a lousy one too. I had a friend who worked at a call center, she worked her way up to supervisor then department lead/manager, She was on top of the world when she got that job! The office was separated by teams and they often competed against eachother for numbers, She never finished first and she had real problems with that and she'd always tell me that she got stuck with the bad team, blah blah.... Long story short, She doesn't have that job anymore.
