Do you think a SAHM should go back to work once the kids start school?

  • Absolutely, why shouldn't she? There's no reason why she shouldn't.
  • It's up to her & her family.
  • No, not really. What do the kids being in school have to do w/ her working?

Oh, me too! <> I would be a pretty dull and unhappy person if I didn't have time for my artistic ventures and fun things. In fact, today I'm having lunch with a friend. DD is 14 and already has her homeschool assignments done for the day except for one she can do independently, so I can leave her alone for an hour or so. Yesterday we both met hubby for lunch just for fun.

As for watching t.v., I consider it my greatest multitasking time. Fixing supper while watching Oprah, folding laundry with Dr. Phil, working on my cards that I sell in gift shops while watching The View, even planning homeschool lessons while watching nighttime t.v. Like you, I don't always watch these shows and sometimes go all day and evening without t.v. But when I am watching, I'm rarely just sitting staring at the screen.

You have inspired me to not make apologies for or try to defend the choice to be at home. As long as my DH and kids like it and I like it, then who cares what anyone else thinks?

That has more to do with how widely spaced the houses are than anything else.

Would you ever tell a working person that they shouldn't take a lunch break until ALL their work is finished?

Lol! That is so rich coming from you! And if she were married to a man 9 years older, that would be okay because its the social norm???

Maybe... where I used to live, where everyone lived on at least 3-4 acres (VERY widely spaced) kids had to either walk or get driven to the place where the bus picked them up. The only buses that ever went to driveways are the ones for the special ed or wheelchair bound children.

Most parents (count me in as one of these) prefer to take their kids themselves to school & pick them up. If we had buses, I'd not use them for my kids. Most kids hate riding the buses so that is a popular reason. Long bus rides when you can get home or to school much quicker. We are talking 15min drive vs. being on the bus for an hour!

I personally as a SAHM have never asked for a pat on the back and would not. But all women, no matter how they spend their days, deserve respect. Well, all people, not just women. I've also never said I work as hard as a wohm because the fact is I don't.

FTR, I've never had Haegen Daz and I wouldn't watch Jerry Springer if you paid me big bucks.

I didn't think it was possible to cook dinner & not watch OPRAH at the same time! lol I've never tried one without the other. That is the big thing. I listen to all of this daytime tv while I'm working or playing with the kids or playing with my creative outlet stuff (scrapping, etc). It isn't like I'm sitting there staring at the tv all the time without doing something else. Now I won't tell you I don't ever just sit and watch the tube, because I do, both daytime and night time.

Part of the reason I SAH is so I'll have time for the fun stuff.

The Spauldings make laundry a much happier event.

You'd hate spending the day with this SAHM. You'd be forced into doing a little scrapping, watch a soap while folding the laundry, reading a magazine while having lunch & listening to Great Hotels on the travel channel, and cooking dinner while catching today's Oprah.

No guilt here. By the end of the day the house is clean, the laundry is done, dinner has been prepared, cabinets are full of food, floors have been swept. So how I get from point a to point b and what I do btw point a and point b isn't a big deal.
