Do you think a SAHM should go back to work once the kids start school?

  • Absolutely, why shouldn't she? There's no reason why she shouldn't.
  • It's up to her & her family.
  • No, not really. What do the kids being in school have to do w/ her working?

"Simple schedule" never ONCE crossed my mind when reading that thread. I can read, I just don't share your view. (Oh, make that viewS.)

Who cares. For the studios and gyms to survive, they will need somebody to do it. Unless its an affluent area, they will need to make themselves accessible to dual income families in order to find the ones who can and will. Or they will go out of business. What you plan to do doesn't affect what the studios and gyms need to do.

No they aren't all. I didn't say they were. I said, if you aren't limitted to the cheapest of all possible offereings, designed to provide opportunities to everyone regardless of income, then you have alot more opportunities available, as provided by the leauges, studios, clubs. Which tends to be, for school age kids, where the real desireable activities that the kids want, are held. And they most certainly DO cater to dual income scheduals - they have to because the cost more money - unless its an affluent area. Don't justify your lack of a job with Mom and Tots scheduals hosted by parks and rec. Thats not the thing.

The teams sports that all of our friends kids play in and I hope ours will also if they wish to do so practice btw 3-6 M-F and all games are played and finished by noon on Sat.

And Opinion, this is not a low-income family thing. YOu should see the "affluent" people and their mercedes roll in for the games on Sat morning in these leagues that practice. But there are plenty of blue collar factory workers, cashiers at the local A&P, etc. also whose kids participate.

Yes, 3 p.m. or so...and even later for middle school and high school sports and band contests because they do more traveling to "away" events or the events simply start later "at home". If it is an after school event then it could hardly be any earlier unless in rare cases when a sports team needs to leave a bit earlier to get to another school on time.

I didn't say you were wrong, not affluent. Actually, I gave you a choice. I said you were a)wrong about the no activities after 6 or b) you were living in an affluent community. But a) was definitely my guess. Thanks for answering the question - the answer, as you have just clearly demonstrated, was a). You were WRONG.

I know a heck of alot more about it here than YOU do!!!!

My niece and nephew play. My neighbors kids that we see all the time play. I've been to the games. I know what these parents are doing btw 3 & 6 Mon -Fri by just talking to them. I have pretty good insight to this.

I love our area. Don't berate something unless you've actually visited it to see for yourself. That isn't a very intelligent thing to do.

Late evenings? Don't think so since the neighbors are out in their backyards playing with the kids, bbqing dinner is what you normally see this time of year btw 6 and 8 during the week or weekends either one. I still see the parent's coming home at the same times. My Dh is home typically by 4:30 every day. Of course being a business owner he may get called back to work, have to stay later, or whatever. That is the nature of the business.

My husband is going to want to coach anyway. So no biggie.

No, I wasn't wrong. You are! ROFL

I'm not living in what I'd call an AFFLUENT community (those are usually million dollar or at least 1/2 million dollar homes). Yes, I am correct on the activities times.

Justify my lack of a job? Why on earth would I even pretend to do such a thing when I absolutely adore being home and probably will be here after the kids go off to college doing the same thing I am now? What are you trying to say?

These aren't cheap things. $100 to play soccer. Maybe that is cheap for your area. It is one of the most expensive leagues here in our area. They practice 3-6p and games are all before noon on Saturday. This sporting league isn't hosted by the school, y, or parks & rec. I looked it up to see what was avail outside those opportunities.
