Do you think a SAHM should go back to work once the kids start school?

  • Absolutely, why shouldn't she? There's no reason why she shouldn't.
  • It's up to her & her family.
  • No, not really. What do the kids being in school have to do w/ her working?

Not a dictatorship at all. There are just some things that the person having to do them is in control of. A dictatorship would be dh getting to decide my career. Someone else telling you what YOU will do is a dictatorship. Me telling dh I've decided to change careers is me exercising my right to earn my living however I see fit as long as it's legal. I'm not telling dh what he has to do for a living, only reminding him that supporting himeself is HIS responsibility.

She's also obligated to return the favor and let her dh do those things if he so chooses. If he decided he wants his time at home after funding hers, there's no reason she shoudln't accomodate him. After all he's only asking for what he did for her.

I think that's really incredible how all those dads are able to be home by 3:00 to coach. Not to mention the Umpires who are paid and are doing so typically as a second job. They must have to all get off awfully early in their first jobs to make it to their second jobs umpiring. And the swim coaches, they also typically work day jobs. I know ours can't get there until 5:30.

That's what I thought, that they started and ended later. I know I'm almost NEVER able to get home by 6:00 if there is a sports practice or game and I forgot about band and Orchestra. That doesn't even START until 7:00!

My DH coaches soccer and they always have pratice at 6:00. The games are Saturday morning. We don't have any activities that are from 3-5. He could take swim lessons at 4:30 but they also offer Saturday lessons.

His schedule:

Mondays-soccer at 6

Tuesday-scouts at 6:30

Wednesday-choir at 6

Thursday-Gilda's at 6

Friday-nothing

Saturday-Soccer game at 9 AM, horseback riding lessons at 1

Isn't that the truth? When I think of how much all these sports cost it's staggering, $165 for baseball, each, 2X a year, $550 for swimming, twice a year, $195 for Lacrosse, times 2. Ski Club, $365 X 2. And that's not even counting all the equipment!

I am dreading the time when the kids are playing sports at the same time. I am also dreading traveling teams. Right now, everything is around $45.00 except horseback riding which is sponsored by MIL. I know the prices are going to go higher as they age.

Well, I don't know about that, it's a great gig, if you can get it. DH doesn't even get home until 7:00 or 7:30. And next week, when swimming starts, I won't get back from picking them up until 8:15.

Yes. We see family time as being the FIRST important factor. Activities second. Then you throw in the expenses, ugh!
