Do you think a SAHM should go back to work once the kids start school?

  • Absolutely, why shouldn't she? There's no reason why she shouldn't.
  • It's up to her & her family.
  • No, not really. What do the kids being in school have to do w/ her working?

As I wrote above. It is very rare for my Dh not to be here for dinner. Usually he comes home to eat and goes back to work rather than just coming in late. The only reason he wouldn't is in a situation he could not leave the store. The only times he misses dinner are usually when he is out of town when he goes for business. That is not very often. He is here for about every dinner. I was just saying, if he can't make it, or is out of town, we still have dinner at 5, we don't change it. I keep meals on a schedule, the kids are so hungry, they would pester me to wait until 5:30!

Oh, you misunderstood the time of sporting practice! I'm so sorry! I meant (as was being discussed in this forum) the practices are scheduled from 3 to 6pm. They are only an hour long. So if you practice at 3, done by 4. I didn't mean they practiced for 3 hours (I was just referring back to our discussion of activities btw the 3-6pm hours. I can see if one wasn't following that line of posts it could really be confusing, sorry).

I'm well aware of that without you pointing it out. I didn't want to go to college before I got married. I don't want to go now. I know what a college education will do.

Buses do have seatbelts these days, at least ours do. A long bus ride can be a pain but it is not the end of the world. Kids can have a great time on the bus with their friends. Your last sentence says it all. You just want to drive them. But if you don't have buses anyway, isn't it a moot point?

I never thought you were lying. It just astounded me that you didn't know anyone who took the bus. I have always lived in the suburbs and bussing is a part of life for schools here. No offense meant.

For a HS footbal game to be over at 8, it would have to start at 4:30-5. Since most HS athletic departments depend on the gate proceeds to fund teh program, it seems odd to me that any school would start a game before parents got out of work. Also, what about the schools they play? How does your town's HS get all teh opponents to agree to such an early game time? And with away games, how does the team get back before 9?

HS games here start at 7:30. They are usually finished at 10. That's why they play on Fridays, because it's a late night. Tonight we play a HS that is located on the other side of the city, some 40 miles away. My dd is in the band. We have been told not to expect her back at the the school til 11:30. If she had to be home at 8pm, she might as well forget participating in sports or music.

What are you going to do if your child wants to do something that interferes with "your" time? Something that is positive, like sports or music. Tell them no? How incredibly selfish. BTW, lots of parents of sports and bans kids WOH, have their own businesses, etc, and we all pull together to make it work. Our treasurer flew in from an business trip last night to make a parent meeting. He owns his own company. it can be done if the parents care enough and support their kids enough to do it.

Until this year we had 4 high school sharing one stadium (they recently built a new stadium so now 2 schools share 1 stadium) so here football games are on Thursday and Friday night. So School A would use the stadium on Thursday, School B on Friday and Schools C and D would have away games. The next week School C would play on Thursday, School D on Friday and School A and B would be away. For away games depending on ow far they have to travel they often have to leave before school gets out so it is not uncommon for the player, cheerleaders etc to leave for school in the morning and not get home until midnight.
