Do you think a SAHM should go back to work once the kids start school?

  • Absolutely, why shouldn't she? There's no reason why she shouldn't.
  • It's up to her & her family.
  • No, not really. What do the kids being in school have to do w/ her working?

Same here. I did drop off and pick up last year because ds was in K and he was scared to ride the bus. He rides now and loves it and I love the fact that I don't have to fight the car pick up line and inhale gas fumes for 30 minutes in afternoon while waiting in line.

Hey, it's your life and your children's lives and you can do whatever you want. But it seems, from your posts, that it's really about your dh's business and your unwillingness to go out without him that is driving this. Why can't you go to a ball game or a practice alone?

If you are not farmiliar with HS, then why did you post "Our jr high & high school teams practice immediately followig school. All kids are home by 5. This is the school teams. The game nights, all are home by 8:30 to 9. Just like when we were in school."? I assumed from your post that you were speaking about HS also. BTW, middle school practices and games are immediately following school around here. In HS, it all changes.

I wouldn't take public transportation anyway. Bus, get real sick. Can't ride in the backseat at all, get sick, so no taxi.

We can walk to many things, which is great. Dh can even walk to work.

We would have and do the same things. My kids would still be right here in their own house all day if I worked. Nothing would change. We are not sacrificing, doing without anything. Anything we want to give our children, we can with my being a Sahm. Any place we want to take our children, we can with my being a Sahm. They wouldn't go to any form of child care, day care place, they'd still be home. So yes, I don't think SES would change for all the sahms' families.

IT wouldn't matter whether Dh was a business owner or had another choice of career. The family dynamics we believe should be the same.

And no, I would not travel without my Dh whether he was a business owner, a car salesman, a doctor, or whatever. THAT (his job) has nothing to do with the fact I will not travel anywhere w/out my dh.

Ball game? Practice? I'm not talking about those. Sure, I'll take our kids to those by myself (didn't say I wouldn't). I'm talking these sports/activities where you have to travel (I have a friend who travelled all summer as her son played baseball and her husband was the coach. We aren't talking the next town over).

Because it was here. They changed it around, moved it. Big uproar in the community, ugh! I hated to see them move it and combine with two others, but oh well, that is life. It is hard not remembering it isn't there. We've lived here for years and it has been there for years. Yes, when they were around the corner, you'd see the games letting out early (8 or so) as the traffic comes right by our house (a good reason for it to move was that lol).

The H.S. practices are still right after the last bell for school to dismiss at 3:00 (we have friend's w/a high schooler and we were chatting about something the other day, she mentioned she had to go pick up her son from sport practice at the H.S.). That is the way it was when I was in H.S.

I've done it. It's easier with dh, but we have both gone alone. When we do have to travel, we make a day or a weekend out of it. During one competition last fall, we took an extra day and visited colleges in the area so dd could get a look at them.

When I was in school, band was a class, so it never took up after school time. Everyone's different.
