Do you think a SAHM should go back to work once the kids start school?

  • Absolutely, why shouldn't she? There's no reason why she shouldn't.
  • It's up to her & her family.
  • No, not really. What do the kids being in school have to do w/ her working?

LOL, then it's situationally better depending on YOUR limitations AS I SAID and you protested. Yes, I understand that due to personal limitations SAH can be better. That IS what I said before.

I guess we essentially agree, except I don't believe in the order of things. I think automobiles are necessary because of the nature of our country, not that the nature of our country became that way because of automobiles. "Manifest Destiny" so to speak.

Yep, that she did. I said it could be better based on personal limitations but wasn't generally better the way higher SES is generally better.

OK, so if you despise dropping off and picking up your kids, and you have buses, why don't you use them?

Please post a link to your source. Sorry but I'm not taking your word for it and I want to know what the controls were for the "study" if it was that.

Oh, and I'll wager that SES comes into play here, lol. Educated parents usually mean higher SES.

People do all sorts of things they don't want to to take care of their kids.

Where did I say it couldn't be??? I, specifically, said that it could be but that is based on personal limitations and that is EXACTLY what your post is about.

So do you have a bunch of empty school buses traveling to & from the bus stops on the other 4 days that the 1% are not traveling?

This is even worse.. the music program at that school would have been gone when I was in 9th grade, except that my family and about 3 other families threw a fit. (I wasn't the athletic type.. LOL) They had already "let go" all the music teachers so we saved it by conducting our own band class without an instructor. Luckily the next year they hired a music teacher... it saddens me that music and drama programs are given so little respect.

Saying that sah is better because of *personal limitations*, as you like to continually post (can you ever come up with any new or better arguments?), would be like saying you woh because your *personal limitations* prevent you from being able to handle being with your children all day.

And really, some people need the structure of working, some dont(money/ses aside). I think you have said yourself that rather than taking advantage of the time you would have as a sahp, you would just become lazy. But just because those are YOUR personal limitations, based on your own VERY limited sahm experience, doesnt make it true across the board. Not everyone becomes lazy when they arent locked into a structured time frame-some people actually have the imagination and creativity to become even more productive. Just because a person chooses a sahp because it makes things better/easier for their family overall, doesnt make them incapable of *handling* wohm.
