Do you think a SAHM should go back to work once the kids start school?

  • Absolutely, why shouldn't she? There's no reason why she shouldn't.
  • It's up to her & her family.
  • No, not really. What do the kids being in school have to do w/ her working?

That's what I'm trying to understand about the SES.

Our lives wouldn't change if I woh. Same house, same stuff, same vacations, same, same, same. My kids would even be here at home every day like they are now. Just with a nanny vs. me.

Our SES wouldn't change. We don't sacrifice. We have what we want. We do what we want. We aren't lacking anything. We even have college educations for the kids. We will pay them in full.

No. I realized they do. I'm saying I know I wouldn't do it though.

Sure you are.

SES is not determined by dual wohps as you yourself mentioned on another thread where you talked about how the sahms in your neighborhood chided you for working for the same things they could afford on one income. You know it because you said it. Obviously their SES is the same if not higher than yours even at your dual woh status.

Further, many of us sahms are adamant that our teens won't be latchkey kids. I'll post the FBI stats on the risky afterschool hours if you really want but you yourself have stated that older kids need supervision. Since most jobs are the 9-5 variety and school gets out around around 3ish, do the math. Sure, dual wohps can hire a nanny but imagine being a 15 y/o and telling your friends you have to report to the nanny? I wouldn't want to be that kid....

Bingo, that is what I thought! I also thought she did say it!

Just like with us! Nothing would change!

A matter of opinion. I think it is much better the kids spend the day with me than a nanny here in our house! I am better for them than us paying a nanny.

We don't sacrifice. We live in the same house, have the same stuff, do the same stuff as if I worked.

This is so true for me

"I think you have said yourself that rather than taking advantage of the time you would have as a sahp, you would just become lazy. But just because those are YOUR personal limitations, based on your own VERY limited sahm experience, doesnt make it true across the board. Not everyone becomes lazy when they arent locked into a structured time frame-some people actually have the imagination and creativity to become even more productive. Just because a person chooses a sahp because it makes things better/easier for their family overall, doesnt make them incapable of *handling* wohm."

I love being home. I have so many creative juices flowing I run out of time before I get to indulge in all of them so I have to put some on hold for awhile. Dh laughs and says "you are too busy to work". I said your right. I have so many creative outlets and if I went to work out of the house I couldn't enjoy them and the good life (as in good life for me, Cindy).
