Do you feel a parents income has a direct EFFECT on the children they raise,

Her general idea that how her child will grow into a adult is determined by her finances. Kinda threw me for a loop.

Well, having grown up in poverty I can tell you that yes indeed, having a secure roof over your head, enough to eat, decent clothes, and access to medical care is indeed an advantage.

I agree it is certainley a advantage, growing up in proverty I wonder if that effected your determination to make your life better for yourself and your children?

for example you knew you had to work hard and keep going, you did not expect things to be handed to you.

Okay i admit this is a loaded question, but this is where i stand.

Going to bed hungry, or not having a bed, is a hard way to raise kids, and a hard way for them to expand their minds beyond anything except "what's for supper." But once those needs are met, the rest is what you make of it.

I would agree with that.

"I know two other families whose HHI is several times ours, and their college dropout children are still living with them and working in the family business (fast food)."

Imo, that has to do with the values the parent has instilled in the children, and how the parents have rasied the children. If a parent hands everything to their kids, that probably will probably have a direct effect on how a individual sees the world.

My parents handed me everything as a kid at 20 they cut me off cold turkey, it was a rude awakening, I had to fiqure out later in life that money does not grow on trees . Iam glad i fiqured it out on my own, otherwise i could be leading my children down that path. Just wish they would have taught me that earlier in life.

do you not agree that for many/most the cycle of poverty continues?
