Yesterday morning I put my youngest on the school bus for the first time.

Well, that's my question, what are those things that a SAH parent can do, when the kids are in school, that a WOH parent cannot, that make a difference?

I think a lot of this has to do with the differences and what type of summer is wanted, there are many choices.

In looking at my kids and their friends (both sahp and dual wohp), there isn't much difference, they are all having about the same type of summer.

With my kids in school all day, there isn't the choice of not having evening or weekend activities, unless the choice is to not participate in any activities.

I have a really stupid question, so please don't flame me for it: Unless the SAHM doesn't have a car, why would her kids need to take the bus? They would have more time to get ready in the morning and more time to do homework in the afternoon with a direct ride, wouldn't they?

I guess it all depends on how far you live from the school. My kids bus picks them up 25 minutes before school starts. If I drove them, I would probably leave the same time or maybe 5 minutes later as there is a line to drop them off in the morning. School is only 5 minutes away so I would only have 5 minutes more time with them in the morning.

Isn't it a waste of gas to drive a child to school when a bus is already going there.

I only drove my kids (both as a SAHM and a WOHM) when there was no other option. If a bus was available or the school was within walking distance I did not drive them.

Maybe because I come from a public transportation culture, but I can't see why I would crank up the car to take the lil dahlings to school, if there was a bus.
