I think what she was getting at is that it's fine to not be religious in your daily life - many aren't -- but there's a difference between that and having an understanding of and respect for the fact that religion played a major role in the founding and the foundation of the country -- you don't have to have religions as a part of yoru daily life to understand the significance religion has to history and indeed to current events all over the world.
The 2 year wait WAS to have something spiritual and religious as the church was not free either :)
We were too young to get married when we got engaged and wanted to be a little more set up with being able to have good jobs and have a place of our own. We knew we were going to wait the extra time before we got engaged. It wasn't a decision made after we got engaged.
....and you postponed that ceremony for two years in order to have the after party, so clearly it's more than spiritual and religious, which really no care of mine except to wonder why it matters to you how someone else gets married.

I realized that, but even in my area where public transportation is horrible (and she stated that she lives where there is great or good public transportation) I thought two hours was a long time to get to the store.
I agree that the dress, party, flowers, friends, relatives, music, rings, etc are very nice to have. I just don't understand why it's confusing that someone wouldn't mind not having those things, focusing on the marriage, not the wedding.

Good luck getting an answer.
Hey....we all sin, even those of us who are religious, lol.
<< I am talking about my everyday life, not how our country was founded. >>
How you are able to live your everyday life is about how our country was founded.

That wasn't what you stated in a few posts back....you said it was for the party, the honeymoon and etc...
So if you were too young to get engaged, why do it?
