I never said the church part was free, just that two years is a long time to wait if one is focused on the spiritual and religious part of the marriage....now if one is focused on the wedding, I totally get it, you need to save up to pay for the stuff that goes along with a wedding.

<ITA with you. That is why there are so many divorces out there. We knew each other almost 2 1/2 years before we got engaged and had a 2 year engagement. We didn't get married to just "have a party" but it was in our plans and we wanted all our friends and family to rejoice in our decision to get married.
Since we have been married for 15 yrs, I think we made a great decision to wait and not rush into marriage "just" to have a party.>

So if you believe that why on earth would it even matter to you that someone had a quicky wedding.

Even though our country was founded based on religion, doesn't mean that I have to live my life religiously (a fact that is a thorn in my MIL's side, btw).

We were focused on both as we wanted to get married but wanted all our friends and family to share that day with us.
We also wanted to wait so I could have a good job and we could get a nice apt., have furniture and a nice honeymoon.

<And I did end it with her but you started it again because YOU didn't want to let it go. >

Everything is debatable on this board you have said it yourself from time to time.

I thought was you that said somewhere that people shouldn't get married if they can't afford it, but then you asked why would they opt for a $20 wedding. I'm just saying that it's because they wanted a *marriage*, not a wedding.

ITA with you but too many girls are into the whole "party" part of the marriage and not actually getting married and that is why they get so depressed after the wedding.

I wanted to get married and the party was the extra part for me and my dh.
