LOL, all I said was that it is common in lower middle class, Italian neighborhoods, such as RLGL might be acquainted with. She prefers middle class, so we can conclude that it is common in what we will now call middle class, Italian neighborhoods. It does not follow that it is confined to such neighborhoods or that only Italians do it. In fact, I was backing her point-that it IS common in neighborhoods such as hers, that is all.

Yes, that is generally the way tax returns work and if you are audited, you must provide support and/or documentation.
