Kelly and I want to be married (civil unioned in NH) some day but b/c we have some big ass issues like oh -- my cat allergies, our wildly different tastes, her ocd cleaning neuroses and my um.... not so much about the cleaning attitude, and my inability to comprehend sharing a closet -- we often joke that we will get married, have an awesome party and honeymoon and then go back to our separate homes! LOL. For us a duplex would be heaven -- her side and my side with a little liza door inbetween !

As a slob who is married to a neatnick - happily for almost 14 years, it can be done. The best thing we ever did was get a cleaning lady - better than therapy for us. That and we both have compromised a bit (although we "argue" over who has come the farthest ;) ).
Cat allergies are another thing though.
I like your idea about the duplex. Maybe you could find some place that has two private suites, but with common areas too. Sort of like micro co-housing.
oohhhhh that's a good idea! I've actually over time become desensitized to HER cats -- it's interesting, other cats make me sneeze and itch but her cats don't bug me, I think bc after four years of sleeping at her place and her cats sleepng on my head my body pretty much said "yup ..used to it now" but what I have a REALLy hard time with is how much they shred everything -- I have one lovely cool contemporary chair with leather cushions that is the one pice of nice furniture I bought myself in the divorce and the thought of her cats getting their claws into makes me crazy....

I guess I'm overly confident, because I never doubted I could WOH FT and be a great mom. Originally, I came here to see why so many other moms saw WOH and mothering as a conflict.
