No, I don't think you're overly confident, you were just more secure in your choices, and you made it work the way you planned. Once I became a parent, neither dh or myself had secure feelings about our prior plans, and our work status changed with the addition of each child. Your path worked as originally designed by you, my path was a little more winding, but we eventually found a good balance for our family.

Well not all people are living together before marriage. Their bills might go up after getting married as their rent might go up or they will buy a house-a larger expense than they had before.
I think it all depends on the individual couple. I just could not understand how a couple that only had $20 could think they can get married but then I read how they were doing it before they left for Iraq for other reasons, I do understand.

What I don't get is how you think people need a boat load of money to get married.

Of course but we did not live together before getting married. The rent we paid was more than double than what my dh was paying. I lived at home so I saved most of my money and had a little spending money and car insurance/repair money. We lived on $300/week at that time and more than half that went to rent-lol!!

Another thing to consider as well is the fact that a lot of time a mortgage can be less than paying rent.

My experience and other I know who have also gotten married. I know not everyone is the same as me and friends and family but I am sure we were not alone.
