OT-- and this may seem weird, but how do you say thanks before each meal?
My German host family had a prayer like saying that they recited before each meal, and my parents say the "God is great, God is good" prayer. I'd like to do something like that with my family, but I'm not really comfortable with a traditional prayer.
That's not effective in the long run since it's an artificial separation. Even here in the west, where we have been separating religion and politics since the Enlightenment, religious issues tend to creep into politics and political ones into religion, and sometimes it's difficult to know where to draw the line. In other cultures, where there is no line between religion and politics, trying to separate the two gives you a total misunderstanding of the issues.
IMO, scottswife2001 is not religious at all and that would be a deal breaker for me. If the officiant was doing this for the first time and had some background in religion, then maybe it wouldn't have bothered me as much.

What does that matter?

1. I wouldn't feel comfortable marrying my sister if I just became an ordained minister and got this "degree"from online for $20.
2. I would not feel comfortable having my sister marry me because I only wanted to spend $20 and that is how much the class cost online.
Getting married to me was more than just a peice of paper. It was something spiritual and religious.
If I wanted to save money, we would have gotten married 2 years earlier than we did, when we got engaged.
I think marriage is more than a peice of paper.

I would even take her idea farther, have them help you plan the meals, shop, then prepare the meals.
