i admire you, you remind me of my son's first grade teacher. she is probably your age and when she graduated college, she substituted a lot then when a teacher spot was available, she applied for it and got the job, she loves what she does and it shows. there are some at the schools here who have masters or who are working towards masters in teacher aide/assistant positons but because opportunities are so few that's all tehy can do. IMO, if you can afford to wait for a teacher position do!

I think if the "work" part of my work was the worst part of my job I think I would find a new "work", life is too short to do something 30-40 hours a week, every week for years if one doesn't enjoy the work.

Yep and that is why I have been reluctant to go full time, I often work full weeks but I have almost always have the option to not work a full week or work less than following week if I do full time.

I agree and it would take a heck of a lot for me to stay in a job that I didn't like.

ivillage is the site in my favorites i like hence my comment that there are no "similar boards", i don't debate anywhere else adn i like the menu of choices when it comes to support too, i.e. special needs, christian parenting, catholic parenting. i used to post on the SAHM board.
