The funniest was DH's grandma. She skypes (with help) with her great grandson who lives 1000+ miles away from her. The first time my MIL showed it to her, she was really confused-- she thought it was a video or photo or something on the computer screen. Now she loves it!

involved grandparents (and parents, for that matter) is about the relationship IMO. if all an involved grandparent is was attending a recital, a sports event or providing dcp without the close relationship then i'd not want that kind of involved person in my child's life. i've read and heard irl too about strained family relationships, and these families live near eachother, Lol. maybe what some have so physically close they take more for granted than someone who lives far away. my family has a strong bond, and that bond isn't shaken because we live thousands of miles away.
