Yeah, I found the article pretty offensive. And now that I think about it, some of the kids featured in the article went to Stuyvescent (sp?), which is a public HS in NYC but quite elite just the same. Good luck on the sports draft. My dd14 plans to publish her first novel in HS, go to a top arts school for creative writing, and then go straight into a career as a novelist.;)

Well, I was trying to be polite and suggest time management if one actually thought that 35 hours a week was the bulk of their time.

Thanks and good look to your dd, I hope to read a novel of hers one day.

This pretty much sums up the whole debate. I would lol, but it's just not even funny anymore.

And I hope your son gets his sports draft. I hope my dd becomes a writer, but I hope she also has a backup plan for what to do until she gets that first novel published.

But I will say, being a student athlete (or a student who is active in clubs and/or other outside the classroom academics/arts) regardless of the school (public or private, elite or not) is not easy and one has to give up things in order to be successful at being a student athlete....and yes, that would include hours of watching television during the week.
