Exactly!

Maybe and maybe not. It all depends on how close the grandparents are to their children all the time. Not just one or two events here or there.

Our private schools also have bus service. My gf switched from public school to private in high school and she got dropped off right where she would have if she took the public school bus. If her parents had to pick her up, she would have had to wait as the school is about 30 minutes away and both her parents worked so I can see that many other families would have the same dilema.

I believe I said before to sav, we aren't getting anywhere with facts and logic in this debate.

I mean really, do I seem like the type of parent who would force their kid to hang out at school running amok because I couldn't pick them up from school and/or arrange a ride home for them?

Have you had experience with the same set of grandparents, living both close and far? That's the only way you can truly determine if distance makes a difference.

Lol. I remember that my niece wrote about her experience of moving from the "top" suburban school in our metro area to a very diverse, inner-city school. It must have been a good essay because she got into her first choice school. This was some years ago, and I doubt an essay like that would do it these days. It makes me sad that some kids are doing volunteer work, or trying to create some special experience, solely for college application purposes. I think we're putting a lot of pressure on kids these days to get into theses "top" schools, when maybe these kids would be happier somewhere else.

I totally agree, my hope for my kids is for them to find the "right fit" in a college, regardless of where it sits on someone's list of elite schools.

Sure there's the possibility. Except that she has REPEATEDLY told you that is not the case for them. Ah huh has said repeatedly that her kid can go home or stay too.

Well you can look back at my day and see what my free time consists of and what I could do if I did not work. Gesc. just explained her day too and as she said, she would be have more free time if she did not work to do things even though she has hours inbetween her job.

So you think that only these "elite" schools have students who stay after? lol!! My dd stayed after on Monday to study in the library and yesterday for a club meeting. So does that make her "better" like these "elite" students you are boasting about?

Again, I will say it. There are NO busses for these kids. If they HAVE to wait for a ride, why not join a club or a sports team. And again, it does NOT mean ALL kids who join a club or sports team do so because they HAVE to wait for ride but because they want to.

I don't think you are other posters are seeing the BIG picture. ALL of these kids need to get a ride home. If they HAVE to stay, that just might be the reason 75% of them join clubs and sports even if they ENJOY the club or sport. It gives them something to do besides hanging out before their rides arrive.

I think what amazes me most of all is the assumptions you are making about total strangers, minor children at that, despite all evidence to the reverse of your statements.

Double standard, yet again.
