What plans have you made for the post child years?
DH and I just getting started discussing them. If all goes as planned(!?!), YDS will be graduating from undergraduate school in ten or so years and DH will be 60 or so year old. So we are looking at options, post HS,post college, where will we live.......
Do you see yourself working in some way for the foreseeable future? DO you see yourself taking things easier? Do you see yourself moving to a different location?

We've got another 15 years or so before we have an empty nest, but the plan is that we will retire at that point.
We are there. Dd is off to college in October. We have no plans to retire, either now or in the foreseeable future. Dh has a million projects going, but I am pressing him to slow down some, since he wants to write some books (not the kind that make money). I plan to finish the degree I am currently working on, and I toy with the idea of continuing on and doing a masters. I would also like to start working in a year or two, within my new field somehow. I have no desire to stop working. The opposite rather, I see the child-free future as an opportunity to work more, lol.
As far as residence, we are pretty happy where we are, but now that we are not bound by the kid's school, I could see us making extended stays in, for example, Berlin, and possibly the US as well. Those stays would mainly be for doing research and/or working though, not just for gadflying around.

We have a basic outline of life....we will both continue to work to a certain degree, I can't see dh ever retiring, lol.

Outside of the plans that my younger three have for having their own bedrooms when the older two go away to college, we don't have any plans, lol.
My oldest will just be entering 8th grade this year, and we are starting to look at her future (hs and college), and one right behind her starting 7th grade.
i have an aunt and uncle who have moevd almost as many X as we have, they're settled back home now and have been there since the 1980s.
I honestly don't think every step has to be perfectly planned, as long as you are saving and preparing financially. I'd rather think of this as an adventure, not a connect-the-dots picture.
