It looks to me like you are basing your opinion of the USAs school system on one or two districts. Basically, because IYE the gifted kids are left to twist in the wind, that happens everywhere? Or it's common, even?
I think, perhaps, you misread my post. Go back and read it again. I said that the GT students in our district are *catered to*. How in the world did you get that I said that children who do poorly in school lead?
What I mean is... all the smarts in the world doesn't get you anywhere without drive and ambition. I think that drive, ambition, and a strong work ethic is what makes successful people and leaders.

I think alot does depend on the parental involvement and voice. At our school the parents do a very good job at making their wishes known.

And now I am not so sure our current President is a good example if you are going to include work ethic, drive and ambition. ;)
