Wrt their working status/parenting as an adult?

If you SAH, will you encourage your daughter (or son) to do the same? How would you feel if they chose different from the path you have taken as a parent?

In a small crew, you do everything.

That's not carpentry. That someone who is a carpenter might, *might*, also take on other jobs that require physical strength himself rather than subcontract parts of a job to a more appropriate person who does not need to be a skilled laborer, does not mean that women don't have the physical strength to do woodworking, which is, of course, what carpentry is.

Cause said wheelbarrow already has a 1/2 load of wet concrete in it .. duh!

My point is this ... some women *can't* be carpenters or construction workers or funiture delivery persons. Just like some can't be opera singers or piano players.

And some men can't do those things either.

Its not a gender issue; its a being able to physically do a job issue.

In the case of people with an enormous financial empire that could crumble in the hands of somebody without a business degree, then I agree, it IS about controlling the money. But I don't think grimalskin or you have a Bill-Gates-style financial empire that could be jeopardized by a 40 year old making bad choices. For people who don't have an empire worth millions that could stand or fall, it really is about controlling the children.

Of course not. Nothing to prevent them from having a fine career as a skilled cabinetmaker, though.

Some women can. As is obvious in those women that have made construction or carpentry a career.

But, the fact is ... women are naturally less capable of such things as men. It takes a whole lot more work for a woman to prepare herself for such tasks than a man. It can be done sure ... and anyone that wants to do so has my wholehearted support .. but they shouldn't be fooled into believing that such tasks are as easy for the average woman as they are the average man.

Well, but then you're obviously not the woman we're talking about. You obvoiusly *do* have the strength to complete the said task.

Some women don't. Some men don't. Statistically, less women have that capacity as men do.

I was 5 months pregnant with my daughter when I went to pick up my nursery furniture (which included an armoire) at the Babies R Us late at night towards closing

Do you know anyone who really only wears one, well-defined, particular hat in the job they do?

I'm the membership director for my organization. Its not in my job description to answer phones, but I do so. Its not in my title to go to Walmart and buy supplies for the breakfast meeting tomorrow, but I will do so.
