Dear old great Auntie has passed away at 97. She has left you and all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, $10,000. The instructions of the Will are that this money must be spent somewhat "frivolously". Not to pay off debt or save for the future. To buy or do something that is on your "before I die" list.

What would you do?

We're taking the family next year, or possibly the year after, to Antigua Guatemala for a Spanish language program. We'll also travel to Tikal and Antitlan to explore the Mayan heritage of my boys. (I'm taking my dd to Ireland this year to explore her heritage).

Funny you should post this, as I had a great aunt recently pass away with a small bequest with just this request in mind. We were going anyway, but her contribution may make it two weeks in spanish school rather than one.

Hmmm....I think I would have a surround system put in throughout the house so I could hear music wherever I am cleaning.

There's a particular watch that I think is just gorgeous. With tax, it's $9,800.

Berlin, take the train. There are several apartment style hotels, so you don't have to eat out 3X a day (at least I find that a drag with kids). The other option is to rent a car and work your way up Jutland. You can visit legoland http://www.legoland.dk/?lc=en, then see Aarhus, which has a neat outdoor museum http://www.dengamleby.dk/english.htm and is a pretty and pleasant town besides, end up in Skagen or on Laesoe http://laesoe.flip.contix.dk/en/ a short boat ride from northern Jutland (Frederikshavn).

Just wanted to say that I agree - I don't consider tithing to be donating to the church any more than I consider taxes to be donating to the government.

I would fill my gas tank up ALL the way. "Fill 'er up, I've got an inheritance to spend" I'd say to the attendant.

You would still be able to donate and stay within the parameters of this scenario. You simply spend (frivolously) the entire 10K$, and donate X% of 10k$ but from money you already had (or from money you will eventually earn) rather than from the inheritance.
