Fathers have a choice

I was flipping through the channels this morning when I came across one of those baby shows. I think it was called Bringing home Baby or something like that. Anyway, the part that caught my attention was where they were changing the baby (actually she was doing the changing. He was just standing and watching) She then made the comment that he "doesn't do diapers". She then goes on to say her dad didn't either and try to come up with some reasons why some dad's don't do it and how they can't handle it, blah, blah, blah. The new dad then piped in that he couldn't stand the smell and he just doesn't do them. She then says...some dads do and some dads don't.

So I sat there and thought.....Why does dad get a *choice* in it at all? Why do they get to *opt out* of the diaper changing duties? What if the mom decided she couldn't stand the smell as well? Would the child then stay in a dirty diaper for the next two years until he is potty trained or until one of them broke own and changed the poor child? Why would a mom think that changing a diaper was an opional assignment for the dad?

Anyway....it's not really sah/woh. But I thought it a good debate topic.....Why do dads get the choice to *opt out* of parenting duties? And why would moms let them do it?

In the case of invading Afghanistan and toppling the Taliban government I think it was definately worth it. What I think was a gargantuan mistake was then going into Iraq. If all the soldiers in Iraq were instead in Afghanistan, we'd have bin Laden by now. If all the resources being used to try to rebuild Iraq had been used in Afghanistan, it would have a more solid infrastructure now and might in fact be "done" and US and other allied military wcould stop occupying. There was a solid internationally accepted rationale for invading Afghanistan and in fact the global community pretty much expected it and it would have been recklessly weak not to do it. No such rationale for Iraq- the WMD's were weak from the get-go. And it trashed a lot of international goodwill that the US had too.

So I think Afghanistan was a case where it was worth it, but not Iraq.

I believe we are discussing Iraqi's Afghani's. I am aware where Egypt is. So are you telling me that if you are walking alone in an empty shopping mall parking lot and a rather very large man is walking towards you you aren't intimidated?

I am still not aware how one would know if someone was Muslim. I just dont understand how someone could ask to be put on another flight because there is a Muslim onboard. Really sounds weird.

He is the leader of Al Queda. He is the one that is the biggest threat to this country. DO you really think a nation that idolizes such a dispicable person wants any talks with the US?

What is Iraqi's Afghani's? I know Iraqis are citizens of Iraq. I know Afghans are citizens of Afghanistan. But I am completely clueless as to what Iraqi's Afghani's are.

<< I am aware where Egypt is.>>

If you knew where it was, why did you ask someone how one can tell the difference between an Egyptian and a Middle Eastern man?

So talks won't work, war won't work. What is the solution?

<<>>

You are againest war in Afghanistan as well correct. As for Iraq yes I did believe that WMD were in Iraq. Just like the majority of the senate as well as the current administration. You aren't buying into the baloney that Bush cherry picked the evidence are you?

<<< President Bush used the tragedy of 9/11 to finish a war in Iraq that his daddy never got to finish, period.>>>

I love hearing people say this. Very funny stuff. Bush Sr DID finish what he started. He went into Iraq to push Saddam out of Kuwait. Mission accomplished. Let me put it this way. When someone that has EVERYTHING to lose err Oil For Food scandal...tells this country that Iraq has WMD, and we have just been attacked....you had better believe our President had better be listening.

I believe invading a country that was deemed a threat to our country is a good way to stop attacks on this country.
