I'm considering staying at home but have a few questions for those of you that do.

Approximately how much does your significant other make that enables you to stay home?

Can it be done with only

I allowed $10,000 on top of my husbands salary of $30,000 to allow for medical and housing but maybe I was being a little under in my estimate.

I never shop in the Commissary, it is 20 mins away and that is gas money.

Given that an $800/mo mortgage works out to $9,600 a year, that would leave you only $400 for the year for health care costs.

good luck with that.

Thankfully we are all healthy!

I was told that everyone can get free health care here if they cant afford to pay so I guess I would have to go there.

I think it also depends on where you live, too.

Around here you see parents out with kids during the day. But it's So. Cal, the weather is great year round, and a large % of my friends do part-time work (ah, I miss part time work).

In other areas of the country where it's humid or it's really hot, people are less likely to be out. We've kinda become a nation of indoor couch potatoes. Even we've gotten lazy and tend to play indoors more than just walking the two blocks to the park. Then again, we can just go play in the backyard too.

Personally I like being "out and about", as long as I can avoid spending money. Luckily I don't have a coffee habit.

Yeah, health insurance has become a huge issue.

Not while keeping your pride, you can't.
