Full-time Nanny with SAHP - Why?

Something I've often wondered about, but never had the opportunity to ask. Why do SAHM or SAHD need a full time nanny, especially when they aren't working from home. I can easily see the need if the SAHP is a WAHP, but what is the logic for a full time nanny otherwise?

Any comments?

True! Though several in this study do, others work much longer hours.

My DH works from home so 40 hours a week is perfect for us. If we hire an au pair when we move, I'm sure she'll work more than 40 hours as she'll be in our home already.

You are correct. I volunteer alot and I do believe in giving back to the community. But I am not totally selfless either. I am involved in things that are important to my family (school and sports leagues). Dh is involved in charities that benefit the general population, but he gets good business contacts out of his voluteer efforts as well. So we feel good about our volunteerism, but we are not TOTALLY selfless either.

Well I'm sure you are right "officially." I just view her as Mexican American based on her ties and contributions to the community in which she lives.

My DH wasnt born in America either. He's only been here 8 years. I view him as an Australian American. Thouogh I know he views *himself* as Australian!

So our kids, born in the US are also "officially" Australian Americans. Rubbish...to me...they've never even been there yet and are *Americans* as far as I'm concerned;-)

If you are so concerned about where your taxes go maybe you should DO something about it.

Because my children benefit directly from my work, and would benefit indirectly if at all from any volunteering I would do.

How many hours a week do you volunteer?

What percentage of your gross income goes to charity?

Oh, that's right, this isn't about us personally.

Since student loans are money makers for the government, why not?

Preschool is completely voluntary here. The town I currently live in is solidly middle class, and most of my son's kindie classmates did attend at least one year of preschool (we only have 4-6 hour per week programs). However, in the last town I lived in, less than a quarter of the kindies had attended preschool. There were no free preschool programs.

Large college loans would be a DIRECT result of kids going to expensive colleges, not from parents volunteering.

When did volunteering suddenly take me away from my kids for 50 hours a week? Yikes.

There certainly seems to be an attitude that if you work you are a good parent. If you work you probably need childcare and that's ok also. If you SAH you are a good parent. If you SAH and use childcare for ANY reason you are a bad, selfish, mean witch who can't think of anyone but yourself. There is no room for other arrangments.
