Full-time Nanny with SAHP - Why?

Something I've often wondered about, but never had the opportunity to ask. Why do SAHM or SAHD need a full time nanny, especially when they aren't working from home. I can easily see the need if the SAHP is a WAHP, but what is the logic for a full time nanny otherwise?

Any comments?

The risk of that type of resentment is something I'll just have to run.

How did my question deserve an answer and a thumbs down?

I don't find it disgusting, but it is unfortunate that your DH's career demands are sufficient to prevent you from WOH FT, but not sufficient to provide lots of college savings $$$.

You know, I just did some quick research on this. Apparently they *can* have dual citizenship! My husband had always told me they couldnt, and frankly I just hadnt looked into it till now. Looks like not only will they have three passports, but dual citizenship. Certainly a great advantage!

Now THAT's rubbish! Totally untrue. Here's the State Dept. link that explains US dual citizenship: http://travel.state.gov/dualnationality.html

I can't imagine being so enthralled with a candidate that I would put my kids in daycare for 40 hours a week to campaign for them. I don't even think their own spouses do that.

I am. I don't attack people, I attack their positions. See the difference?

Trust me, i'm biting my tongue, the comeback I had to H&I's charming genital reference alone could probably win an emmy for comedy writing with it's stinging sarcasm, but I wouldn't post it publicly. It's good though.

There are a lot of women who simply don't want to work, even though their children are in school, even though they could use the money, even though they haven't saved enough money for college and retirement, even though the kids would never miss them. I think that's lazy, plain and simple.

If you think it's OK to stay home while the kids are in school and your family could use college and or retirement savings, you don't have to explain to me why you feel so entitled, but maybe you should have a good reason for the rest of your family.

I like SAH, but I wouldn't do it at all costs.

There is a lot more grey area in the decision to go back to work than simply college savings, especially in our own personal situation. Dh is a consultant in a project orientated field - his schedule is erratic and his holidays are based on times of low-workload and not a fixed time. The kids will be in school full time, but there are still 80+ weekdays a year when they are not in school, where care would have to be arranged - not to mention any care they might need before/after school during the school year.

My kids will only be in grades 4 and 1 next year. There are a lot of potential changes that could happen before they are college bound (and dh and I are flexible on the 4 year university - neither of us have degrees).
