Full-time Nanny with SAHP - Why?

Something I've often wondered about, but never had the opportunity to ask. Why do SAHM or SAHD need a full time nanny, especially when they aren't working from home. I can easily see the need if the SAHP is a WAHP, but what is the logic for a full time nanny otherwise?

Any comments?

Nah, I think we all know why people have housekeepers.

Well for starters apparently suzymoms friend does...I can't believe there are that many who do, but so many people here seem to be A-OK with the idea of moms leaving their kids to volunteer or whatever for 40 hours a week..

There's a reason Mother Theresa was able to give so much..she didn't have her own family to take care of!

You obviously missed the numerous posts where we are talking about people who volunteer at the expense of savings. I don't think Melinda Gates or any other of the "stratospherically wealthy" are in danger of not being able to fund college or anything else they want.

But honestly, if Mrs. Gates does leave the kids for 40 hours a week, especially since she does not have to, yeah, I wouldn't nominate her for mother of the year award, that's for sure.

You know, I was under the impression that Princess Diana was a very hands on mom who didn't really devote a lot of time to other causes until her boys were in school. I could be wrong though, I don't subscribe to the National Enquirer.

I think having 2 parents home fulltime is overkill, but that's just my opinion.

Don't need to read the Enquirer. I believe Hillary Clinton worked the entire time Chelsea was a baby. I read the biography someone did of her a few years ago. She was a high powered lawyer at the Rose Firm in Arkansas while Bill was governor. I don't know if she volunteered. From my impression of the book I read, she worked long hours and missed Chelsea dreadfully.

Princess Diana was always involved with volunteer causes, even when her boys were younger. As Princess she had her official royal duties plus those volunteer causes she took on. She did insist that the boys travel with her and Charles when they were younger, much to the consernation of the Royal Palace. But they were with the nanny when she and Charles were doing the "royal" thing, whether that was in England or Austrialia.

How exactly is leaving your child in care for 40 hours a week to go to work any different than leaving your child in care for 40 hours a week to volunteer? Money! so if one makes money it is all good "A-okay"

Yes, if the family needs money for college or other savings then yes, it's much more OK to leave your kids with a nanny to earn it rather than to go and have fun.

Feel free to disagree, but this discussions pretty well played out, you came too late.
