Full-time Nanny with SAHP - Why?

Something I've often wondered about, but never had the opportunity to ask. Why do SAHM or SAHD need a full time nanny, especially when they aren't working from home. I can easily see the need if the SAHP is a WAHP, but what is the logic for a full time nanny otherwise?

Any comments?

Gotcha.....these threads end up becoming so long and convoluted that the intention of a post may easily be lost.

You said it. You said your children being in school provides you with childcare.

Please ask a teacher, I think they'll tell you that that is most certainly not their intent. They didn't go to college, get certified and get a masters so they could provide free childcare for you.

If it's a full day, full year program its a child care center.

A 3 hour a day, 3 day a week, 9 month a yeat nursery school isn't providing childcare, at least in any significant amounts.

You introduced it. You asked if it would be OK if your husband goes out and works for the money that neither of you needs while you are staying home. I thought that it was kind of excessive to expect both of you to be home all day everyday with the kids.

Wow, that is great news. I bet you are thrilled to have made the last payment. But does that mean your opinion on the matter is any more or less valid, that other people should have college saved for before they hire childcare and volunteer? I'm sure you thought your opinion was valid before you were done saving and I'm sure you think your opinion is still valid now that you've completed the endeavor. Why should it matter if I have a nanny and volunteer? I don't have to live a certain way in order to defend it.

Now you have college paid for, you can go out and find a 40 hour a week volunteer position!

But both types of 'program' are in the same facility. . .so are you saying that the facility has a split personality?

That 1/2 of the facility is a child care center and the other half a preschool (with 2, 3, or 5 day options and running 9 am- 1 pm, though children can be dropped off at 7:30 am). . .despite the fact that they utilize the same curriculum philosophy. . .

That makes NO sense. . .unless you're willing to agree that preschool is just a fancy name for part-time child care.

Do you consider a preschool that runs only specified hours (say Tues & Thurs 1/2 day mornings) that all kids must be potty trained, no transportation to daycare after preschool hours finish up at 11:30, educational/play curriculm, no extended childcare on site, where they have a drop off/pick up line that the teachers greet & send off the kids with a friendly hello & goodbye to be childcare as in a working mother who hires a childcare giver and the hours are longer (all day care) and accepts children in diapers, children take naps, have lunch?

I don't consider the two the same & neither does the preschool teachers I've talked with in the real world.

Pardon a question from a newbie. I usually lurk daily to read only but felt the need to ask a question this morning.

If you want to get down to the nitty-gritty school age children in school from 8:20 to 3:20 are there for educational purposes but it could also be said secondarily it is childcare because someone is supervising your children from x to y time and during that time you can do other things, even if those are selfish things of the personal nature.
