Is the gender pay gap a myth where you work?

Do you work with any male co-workers with the same job title, and if so, are you getting paid the same? I've read statistice of women earning 75-84 cents for every dollar men in similarly situated jobs earn. New York is considering legislation ~ The Women's Equality Act ~ to get rid of the gender pay gap. It requires an employer to pay the same salary and perhaps give the same raises to both men and women with the same job title. A woman who's been paid less than a similarly situated male for years is entitled to back pay.
<<Women with children are less likely to be recommended for hire or promoted, and in most cases are offered lower salaries than similarly situated men. This proposal prohibits employers from denying work or promotion to workers simply because they have children.>>
If you've ever worked for an employer who doesn't publish salaries, were you paid less than similarly situated male co-workers? How do you find out? Did having children ever work against you in hiring, raises, promotions?
