There should be neither caving in nor sticking to her guns. There should be compromise. And there really is room for compromise between "you should work" and "I won't work". Two points of compromise (that she is unwilling to entertain) is compromising on how many hours/week and compromising on household chores and childcare. He will have to do more around the house than he is currently doing (just guessing) and/or she will work part time rather than full time. These points of compromise get brought up from time to time through the thread but brushed off as irrelevent.
