"I'm curious, how did you arrive at that number"

Total guess

"as well as your belief that I am being forced to retire early due to my dh's retirement date?"

Your DH is what, 14 years older?

Again, it's real easy to state that you're more comfortable basing your budget on one income, but if real estate is expensive and if the "second income" is significant, it's not undesirable IMO.

"The not-needed income is going to pay for expensive home renovations (mbanc, i could use you expertise ;-) that are nice to haves, not necessities."

My father and my husband feel no guilt about anything, so empirically I'm having a hard time understanding what men in general you believe feel guilty about.

"You eat at your desk through lunch that is YOUR choice. Doesnt mean you arent entitled to it."

No, often it's not my choice.

"That the last 8 years I have been at home I have had less do as I please time than when I did when I WOH. That is my personal experience."

Please state for clarity exactly how much "do as you please time" you had as a WOHM and as a SAHM, so we can compare the amounts of time. Thanks.
