Why does the media portray working moms, always, as having guilt?

When my children were preschool aged (0-5), I had more "do as I please time" as a woh than as a sah during that same period. Now that they are in school "fulltime", I have much more "do as I please time" as a sahp during the school year and it is a wash during the summer.

As woh, I could take a day off and still keep the kids in othercare. As a woh, I had relatively free lunchhours. With small children and as a sahp, I had little to no free time. Babysitters were hard to find during the day - except during the summer.

Have you ever asked her if there are days when she's faced with the near running of the statute of limitations that she's too busy to take a full hour off work for lunch?

1. By definition a SAHP does not earn money. Once a parent earns money, that parent would be considered to be working in some sense of the word. A SAHM who gets paid to take care of other people's children as well as her own is absolutely working. What else would you call it?

2. My own dd has not really had any sitters/daycare arrangements since she started school. In a sense I have been "home" with her, but I am a WOHM, because I do work and I do make money.

3. Many people make money although they never receive a paycheck. It is called making a profit, like you are doing with your house, for example.

I am NOT a general contractor. I have no license nor can I practice being a general contractor. It really isnt hard. You go to cabinet store A and you look at cabinets. You buy cabinets and have cabinet store A come out measure and order cabinets. You write cabinet store a check for said cabinets. Cabinet store A comes out and demolishes cabinets, and removes appliances. You then head to Best Buy (my personal favorite store) and buy the frig, dishwasher, stove, and microwave that you like. You then write them a check. Then you head to Flooring store and pick out said flooring you like. Write them a check. Said Flooring store comes in removes existing floor and replaces with new floor. Then Cabinet Store A comes back and puts in cabinets according to their measurements and layout. THEN you have to return to said cabinet store to finalize countertops because I am a personal fan of Silestone and that can NOT be ordered until said cabinets are in. Oh yeah...they tell you that at cabinet store. Said cabinet store measures again and orders countertop. Takes about 3 to 4 weeks. Best Buy arrives to put in new appliances. Depending on dishwasher you may need a plumber to do said dishwasher. Oh yeah...they tell you that too at Best Buy. They install appliances and clean up after they leave. Carpenter and painters arrive to replace and paint moldings and walls. I then write them a check for paint and labor. Then said cabinet store comes in with countertop and this time small glass tile backsplash. Said cabinet store puts in countertop/backsplash. TADA! Kitchen is done. I watch and make sure no shortcuts are taken and that my house and the contents are secure. That is how it is done. I will be happy to detail each room if you would like to know for future reference. Now please show me how I am a WAHM again.

Sure I am. However while the business may not turn a profit said owner is still earning an income.

The do as I please time as a SAHM isnt until my DH is home and I go exercise for about 1 hour. I have detailed out why I dont have do as I please time as a SAHM. There are many days that DH isnt able to be home for me to exercise and I do it at night after the children are asleep. Although my house is done, both my children are at school and I have the next 2 weeks for all the do as I please time I could possibly stand!

Without you there to make decisions, make calls and coordinate all this, how would your house go from being in bad shape to being in good shape?
