Why does the media portray working moms, always, as having guilt?

True but it's also my perogative as a parent to make the decision that my 8 year old is better off being able to sleep until 6:30 instead of being at the bus stop by then to wait for a bus to drive her around town for 45 minutes..I'm fairly sure her sense of personal achievement and responsbility will not be marred by the 10 minutes she spends in the car with me each day on the way to and from school ... ;-)

Yes. We. Did.

I am confused also. I have read on this board time and time again that if you don't earn a paycheck you are not a working mom. Has that suddenly changed?

I never said I didnt do work. All SAHM's do work. Cooking, cleaning, caring for children all day is work.

Your family made a living buying and selling things. I dont make a living renovating my home.

Right...they take their income and spend it on the business. It is an income nonetheless.

But but but you made money. Your a WAHM and you just need to see it. You bought the house, and sold it for profit. WAHM that is what you are!

My nephew bought a run down house last year and is just completing a major renovation. He worked 40+ hours at his regular job while all the work was being done. He was on the phone a lot and used some vacaion days occasionally, but he didn't need to be there full time to renovate his house.

I have been told here numerous times that a SAHM is a mom that is home that earns no money. A WAHM is one that is home and earns a paycheck.

Nobody said that. You have probably heard of "house flipping," which is the process of picking out an undervalued home that can be renovated for much less than the profit it will generate when the house is sold. It can be very profitable, but it is a lot of work. Some of us thought you were in the business of house flipping. Now we know that you are not. You are not a WAHM at all. You are just someone who likes to fill up her spare time with a lot of busy work.

I'm not sure a genuine traditional "paycheck" is involved. One of my good friends is the quintessential WAHM -- she lives in an area with a lot of seasonal tourism and has a guest cottage attached to her property which she rents out for three-four months a year; she makes and sells quilts -- usually only two to three a year, but they go for around a thousand bucks each, and she grows berries and cherries and makes and sells homemade jams and preserves at local craft fairs in the fall. Altogether, her efforts add about 8000 dollars a year to the family income. But she doesn't earn a traditional paycheck at all.

Are you saying that everyone who buys a house, improves and maintains that house, and sells it a few years later for a profit is a WAHM?
