Did you make your decision to SAH/WAH/WOH ft/pt based primarily on objective/tangible factors, or with your heart?

Well said.

Sure a family CAN provide an adequate financial situation for their child, while having a SAHP. I didn't indicate anywhere they couldn't.
But not all families can do that .. even with proper planning. Your implication that if a family uses proper planning they can have a SAH is just plain wrong. It implies that you have better planning skills than families of dual WOHPs. And you don't. You might have better planning skills than me or bob Smith or Betty Jones. But that is NOT based upon working status and you can't imply/assume that because the Smiths have dual WOHOPs that they didn't plan as well as you did.
No not really. I totally believe in that "fact". I just like to type and type and type and posted something I really don't believe becaue I have nothing better to do.
*sarcasm disclaimer*
I worked outside the home when my boys (now 11 and 12 1/2) were little, and hated it. The little I earned was swallowed up in daycare and work expenses, so that what was left barely helped with the monthly grocery bill. I live in a small town where my degree in Social Work/Psych doesn't provide for a lot of opportunities.
When my daughter was born 3 yrs ago, my husb and I decided to try the sah option. I loved being home with her, and when my boys got home from school! After about 2 yrs, my husb wanted me to start helping w/ the family income. I felt the need to contribute financially, as well, but had really grown fond of being available for my kid's needs, and my son's ever growing activities. That's when we decided to look into different wah opportunities. I joined FourPointGroup and now have the best of both worlds. I get to be home and available for my children, but also get to interact with "adults", earn some extra money for the family, and feel like I'm doing more than just cooking and cleaning!
Different strokes for different folks, but don't settle for something less than you really want. There are options available to us all!!

me: "IME, the truth is, financial security is a wonderful thing. However, having dual WOHP is not the only way to get there."
you: "For hundreds of thousands (might I even say millions?) of families it most certainly IS the only way to get there."
me: "It would have been for us too, had we not planned as well as we did."
Where again is the implication that everyone could SAH if they planned better? That's what I thought NOT THERE.
How you could take me saying *we* couldnt have done SAH either, without planning, and infer anything about *my* assumptions about anyone else's planning abilities is way beyond me...
Sheesh.
Of course, spending and savings are also part of that equation, not just income coming in.
