Did you make your decision to SAH/WAH/WOH ft/pt based primarily on objective/tangible factors, or with your heart?

By the time I had 4, here is what your typical day looked like:

4 year old had pre-school from 9:00-11:30 M-W-F, 3 year old had pre-school Tu-Thur from 9:00-11:30. 1.5 year old had co-op on W mornings.

1. Some 4 yr olds don't attend preschool. Even if they did, my youngest always took her nap from 1-3. Preschool is over at 12-1pm.

2. I have never had my 4 yr old on a playdate without me there. Doesn't happen.

3. Yeah the sitter would work wonders. The sitter watching 2 small children while mom grabs a nap? That is quite humorous. Better yet a 4 yr old running around the house playing while mom and baby try to nap. I would love to see the sitter manage that one.

My dd, without fail, falls asleep about 30 minutes before we have to go get ds from school. She's not happy when I make her get up....

***That's a whole other issue but let's go with the sick child shouldn't go to dc or school.***

Um ok.

***One wohp may not have to be worried about being tired, but a second parent or a dual wohp family may have to worry about a wohp being tired at work. Depends on who is up and caring for the sick child in the middle of the night. I may be up with the kids at night, but dh may stay home with the sick kid, so yes I would be worried about being tired.***

Then that is poor planning. If you have a sick child, then the one that knows will be home the next day should be the one up caring for the child. The other parent should be sleeping.

***Depends on how long it takes some parents and the child who is awakened by the nightmare to fall back asleep. So yes, a parent could be sleep deprived.***

Are you serious?

***Some children at a young age, may need help.***

Again a 5 minute bathroom trip shouldn't cause any sleep deprievation.

That happens to me too occassionally. My DS would sleep great and my DD wouldn't. He could fall asleep in the car and I could put him in bed no problem. I could get him out of bed and put him in the car and he would still sleep. My DD doesn't do that at all.

I don't know the size of the studies, but an extremely large study group would get rid of that problem. You are right that for any one child, there's no way to differentiate between enviroment (daycare vs. SAH) and genetic factors (strength of immune system). So if you want the data to reflect just enviroment, you have to collect data on enough kids that it becomes statistically unlikely that one group will have a larger number of kids with stronger/weaker immune systems. Collecting data on an extremely large and geographically diverse group also gets rid of the confounding enviromental factors of number of siblings and climate.

"A sick child shouldn't be taken to DC or left with a nanny when they are sick."

WRONG.
