Did you make your decision to SAH/WAH/WOH ft/pt based primarily on objective/tangible factors, or with your heart?

While I get what PKA is saying, and agreed at first, I do see your (and others') point as well. So, how about this?

A WOHM has absolutely zero opportunity to nap/sleep during 8-9 hours of her day. The SAHM could conceivably have a chance to do so.

I agree with you here. I know mothers that bring their children home from school and in the tub they go. I can't imagine. My kids just about knock down the back door to go play when my DS gets home. They get a bath about an hour before bed. They wash their hands before meals, and most of the time after going to the bathroom. Kids get sick, it happens. Being crazy about it isn't going to help.

Believe it or not...I think you and I agree on a lot of things. The number one reason I SAH is because of my hours. It was HARD to leave my job. The money I made was rather significant. I also really love my work. While at times it is hard to do what I do because I am a woman and men have a hard time dealing with me on occasions. I had a really good group of people that contracted for me, and they respected me and looked at me more like a daughter or a sister. As soon as my kids are older I will return to my work, and the money will definately be very nice to have again. It will just be on a different scale. We built about 75 customs a year and I will downsize to about 30-40. I love my career, it just isn't a good one to have with small kids.

I didn't read it that way. To me, the claim wasn't that dc can immunize a kid to separation anxiety, but rather that it isn't necessarily connected to child care arrangements. But if the claim really was what you say it was, then that's misguided imo.

Hey I am guilty of the little Purrell bottle. I have one of those on my keychain. I use it because my 4 hr old is so small that she can't reach the sink when we are out. So instead of using the sink we have a squirt.

<> I don't buy it that dc forces anything wrt separation anxiety. If your baby is in that phase, he'll show it while at home with you and you have to go to the bathroom. It's not something a parent can control. It's all under the kid's control.

I wouldn't put purell on a 4 hour old baby--what could they have gotten into ;)
