Did you make your decision to SAH/WAH/WOH ft/pt based primarily on objective/tangible factors, or with your heart?

A lot. One on one attention. Having your children in their home. The list goes on and on. I highly doubt one hires a nanny simply because the nanny will agree to care for the sick child.

***I have a pondering question for you and just so I don't have 3-4 exchanges of accusatory posts about asking a question ----> insert disclaimer here (aka just a question, nothing more).***

:) Thanks for the disclaimers. Think you covered it nicely there *chuckle* :)

***Do you think there is something to the fact that germs and that exposure can be a good thing? That perhaps if one is over-zealous in their cleaning and purelling of their children (not saying that you are doing this) that when they are accidently exposed that the exposure can cause a worse infection that it would have if children were not covered in the 99.99% germ free stuff most of the time?***

Yes and no. I don't think that it's as specific as one child being covered in Purell all the time lends *that* child toward worse infection- but I *do* think that the overuse of antibiotics and antibacterial products is *over all* creating preventative resistant germs which is creating a major problem on a global scale (as opposed to individual case-by-case basis). So- I'd say that one should try to use plain old soap/water when possible, but Purell does serve a good and beneficial purpose when used responsibly (when regular soap/water isn't available, for instance.)

***Similar to the new theory that instead of automatically giving script for an ear infection, many doctors are letting them run their course more now? That we as 99.99% germ free humans are developing stronger and more aggressive forms of germs and infections?***

Oh absolutely. No question there. If one can follow and understand the science behind it, it's actually pretty easy to see as I'm sure you probably know. :)

Clearly, possession of a small bladder was poor planning on YOUR part. But that's what you get for hiring a nanny and expecting her to actually do her job. I think I just sprained my eyeballs, rolling them at this ridiculous notion of "fault" over being sleep deprived.

So, if a child can't soothe themselves back to sleep at night ... isn't that a form of insomnia? It sure meets the definition:

in·som·ni·a ( P ) Pronunciation Key (n-smn-)
n.
Chronic inability to fall asleep or remain asleep for an adequate length of time.

Ask her whether she did so and allowed the children out of the stroller when her children were under 3yrs old. See what she says. If she says she did, ask her how she managed it logistically. I'd love to know. Seriously.

I have a friend with 4 under 6 years old. She takes them lots of places by herself. When the youngest was just an infant (the others were 4,3, and 1) she even took them to the city pool. Alone.

Yeah, well we figured out it was your opinion when you posted it the first time. It's not like it was really subtle. She didn't ask if it was your opinion; she asked why it's your opinion. This is a debate board; it's not really all that "out there" to expect someone to actually support with some kind of rational thinking the reason they hold one opinion or another.

No sorry I am not buying that and I think you are really stretching here. Insomnia is a medical condition. You get a letter from a doctor stating a child has insomnia then again you have a MEDICAL condition. Most children don't. Parents get up at night because they don't like to hear their child cry. No one does. However not letting a child learn at a young age to fall asleep is not any one's fault other than the parent.

My SIL was about to go NUTS dealing with my nephew and his lack of sleep at night. He would get up and play, or want to eat or watch tv. She catered to that. When she finally got it, and let him CIO it took just a few nights and he slept through the night. While those nights she was exhausted it more than made up for it.

And I told her why.

And if you let them cry? for 15, 30, 45 minutes? for nights on end? and they still don't sleep? what then? Guess that's my fault too.

Sorry. I don't buy it.

And it doesn't take a medical certification for someone to know they have insomnia. I suffer from it ... yet I've never been formally diagnosed. I have no reason to be formally diagnosed.
