Help! Husband pushing me to find job!
| Tue, 11-07-2006 - 10:35am |
My husband has just taken a leave of absense from his high paying 80 hour a week job to focus on being home more and finding out what he really wants to do. He is now working 3 days a week at a job he really likes. He always said if he took this job he would find another part time job to supplement the income. I am working weekends and babysitting during the week, but my income is a joke. Our kids are 5 and 3 and cry every weekend when I leave. My problem is this: my husband has put no effort in finding that 2nd job he said he would find and is pushing me to work full time. I want to be a stay at home mom, but it may mean him going back to a job he hates. He says the kids will adjust, get over it. Am I being selfish or lazy for wanting to stay home? Is he being selfish for leaving a good paying job?

Why not? Well some people get a lot of fulfillment from their careers. Some people want to be able to fully fund their children's college and their own retirement. Some people understand that children can and do grow up just fine while parents utilize daycare.
My dad lives a block away from me and he is always the first person I ask when I need a sitter-he'd be totally offended if I didnt. One of my best friends watches her grandson every morning. She says she feels like it is a huge privilege to be such an important part of her grandson's life. Not all grandparents see it as a burden to help with the grandchildren.
You seem to have a lot of judgements on others, for one who got irate at the notion of being judged. Why is that?

>>And I've always felt that God helps those that help themselves. I certainly dont expect God to put food on my table or pay my mortgage.<<
YOU ARE SO RIGHT, MY HUSBAND MAKES THE $$ THAT BUYS OUR FOOD....I PREPARE IT & THEN PUT IT ON THE TABLE. BUT W/OUT GOD IN THE FRONT OF OUR LIVES....IT WOULDN'T BE SO EASY.
Asking again, please drop the caps. Its considered very rude to post in caps on a message board.

Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
If you are proud of it, dont hide behind saying you are a sahm. Nothing wrong with being a wahm (or a wohm for that matter). You dont need to make excuses for having ambition-its a good thing and your children will look up to that.
I'm a wahm and it wouldnt occur to me to call myself a sah, even though I *am* home and I am able to work during my kids school hours.

Sorry I didn't realize that me typing in all caps meant that I was yelling. I will remember that from now on.
I wasn't yelling at you or the others....sorry again!
