Help! Husband pushing me to find job!

My husband has just taken a leave of absense from his high paying 80 hour a week job to focus on being home more and finding out what he really wants to do. He is now working 3 days a week at a job he really likes. He always said if he took this job he would find another part time job to supplement the income. I am working weekends and babysitting during the week, but my income is a joke. Our kids are 5 and 3 and cry every weekend when I leave. My problem is this: my husband has put no effort in finding that 2nd job he said he would find and is pushing me to work full time. I want to be a stay at home mom, but it may mean him going back to a job he hates. He says the kids will adjust, get over it. Am I being selfish or lazy for wanting to stay home? Is he being selfish for leaving a good paying job?

My dh has not owned a suit in about ten years. He hates wearing them, so by a certain age he just stopped.

I wish womens' pants were done by the inseam like mens' pants. It would make it so much easier if the came in 2 inch increments!!

I do the same thing with high heels....I just dont want to spend $$ on getting cheap jeans and cheap dress pants hemmed. My $400 "interview" suit? Absolutely. $25 jeans I got at Old Navy for $10? Not so much. Lol.

<<Most people with my level of income don't put their children in multiple sports. >>

I don't agree with that, do you have any support for that statement.

I don't see allowing my children activities and purchasing the things that they need for those activities to be spending like there is no tomorrow.

My dh only owns one and I don't think it fits anymore.

Now see, I'm the opposite. I usually have to buy pants and cut several inches off the bottom. Which is why I shop sales and thrift stores.

"I wish womens' pants were done by the inseam like mens' pants. It would make it so much easier if the came in 2 inch increments!!"

After much agita about never finding jeans long enough I finally hit on the perfect solution. I buy men's jeans. I can get the waist and inseam right and now they come in boot cut which is my favorite style and I don't have to worry. I have 2 pairs of men's jeans and a pair of mens' khakis, a few mens' oxfords and some mens cargo shorts and I love them all (all Old Navy)

i realize I'm doing nothing to dispel the image that of lesbians being butch women who want to dress like men of course so I"ll also go on to note I have several mini skirts and girly tank tops as well...;-)

No one wears suits to the weddings dh and I are usually invited to. They're usually pretty informal. At most the men wear kaki's. I usually hear "What are you so dressed up for?" if I wear a skirt.

The high school that I attended had full time science teachers, including chemistry.

I consider myself very thrifty too but I'd guess my family probably spends close to 3k a year. When you have 4 people involved in sports, even fairly low cost sports, the gear needed adds up fast. Good running shoes for my dh cost between $100-120 a pair and he goes through 4-6 pairs a year easily. I probably only go through 3 pairs a year but it still adds up-then factoring in running socks at $10-15 pair and clothing for both winter and summer. Ski and snowboard gear for my kids in winter, soccer and softball cleats in summer (and they are still growing enough to need new stuff each season), its amazing how fast sports gear can add to a family's clothing bill.

Now, regular clothes, we are pretty low maintenance. We all like nice clothes but my kids, even my teen, find shopping for sale items and hitting the thrift stores fun. None of us are overly into designer items. My dh only shops once a year or so, he wears a uniform so he doesnt need suits or many dress clothes. I shop usually 2-3x a year for my kids-Fall and spring for basic stuff and then dd usually gets clothes for christmas.
