I dont worry too much about what my kids are going to do anymore. I hope they choose college, I heavily encourage them in that direction.

Yeah.

I only really know the European systems (which differ but share a basic approach). Here kids do not usually start specializing till 10th grade, but once they do the specialization will have direct bearing on which university programs they can apply to. Some programs are open to all "majors," but many require specific HS courses for admittance, although in some universities there is the option of doing an extra semester or two to make up the lacking HS preparation.

From what I can understand about the US system, even in a regular HS the kids have many choices about which courses to take. So, to me, it sounds as if the SLC program tries to rationalize those choices and have the kids develop a concentration instead of having random courses. I would think that ought to be a good thing.

I think that is just an extraordinarily limited approach to education ~ the idea that an 11 yo has the experience and intelligence

>>Hopefully, this will be one of those new experiments in education that dies a quick death.

Why on earth would these students be destined for remedial class?

Why do you think these students will need remedial classes on college? It does look potentially narrowing but there is nothing in the OP to suggest that this type of program won't teach core skills.

Well, it's all kind of interesting.
