did you not grow up with sit down dinners then, too?
It doesn't have to be centered around a meal.
i don't know what fend for yourself in a family means, you mean you only fix yourself something and not anybody else?
We were at a dinner party and the husband and wife were having a disagreement over this issue. She looked to me and said "everybody knows sitting down to dinner every night is important" I was like "um, um, um".
I wondered if I should just "yea" and support her blindly or tell her I disagree - but then the husband would be like "score
I ate at the dinner table every night. If you were there you were there if not you did not rearrange to be home by a certain time. By the time I was 8 two bros had already moved out. The other 3 had sports, jobs, etc. My grandmother was there everynight - and my mom - I guess my dad was there most the time but I think he probably had to do the sports run here and there I don't remember either way.

"Fend for yourself" in our house means microwaving leftovers. The little one might ask for nuggest and fries or spagettios.

we are going to run into an obstacle in a couple weeks, one child has a place to be b/w 4 and 5:00 and another child has an activity b/w 6 and 7:00.
