Life happens - sometime my H has to go out to lunch and then he is easily over his daily intake - sometimes he misses lunch and then needs to eat immediately when he gets home - headache, etc -

I try to meet my mom once a week for lunch - which is hard to do for 500 calories - or however many points I am allowed.

We do the same thing. In the summer, we eat a huge green salad with some bread and cheese at least once a week. We're also more likely to eat sandwiches (egg salad, tomato, etc) in the summer and light egg dishes like fritatta. We also eat more meat in the winter than in the summer.

Still your "light" meals would be more "points" than I am allowed on a day that I met my mom.

While my kids are very smart - and also special needs. I think that it is not a matter of learning how to sit at this point but having routine so there is not an arguement or it does not work against their expectations - which is necessary for a child that is rigid.

But I can have 1 routine for the weekend, 1 routine for sports nights and another routine the other nights. It seems to work fine.

I suppose I kind of plan for those kinds of days. Usually we have some sides that are fairly low calorie, on the table that I can eat if I had already had a big lunch. If your DH needs to eat as soon as he gets home (I'm kind of like this), I would have a snack of some tide him over until dinner was ready. If he's missed lunch, then that's a lot of calories to make up for anyway. We sometimes snack as we're preparing dinner, a couple of bites of veggies or a couple of bites of cheese, etc.

Most of the light meals we eat in the summer rarely go over 500 calories per person.

Those rages are very hard and we have luckily been able to counsel the older one out of most of his rigidity - though I try not to spring anything on him completely. We definitely have a routine.

Frequently DH or I will have just a salad for dinner.
