For moms who choose to use daycares, how do you determine that your child will be well cared for? I have a close relative who is about to become a mommy and she is terrified of leaving the baby in daycare. No one in my immediately family has ever used a daycare

I'm just reading through this topic and want to chime in. I am a SAHM, so I can definitely understand why you need to stay at home. But...as a former preschool and now substitute preschool teacher, it would absolutely be gross to re-wipe a child after he/she went to the restroom. By the time they are potty trained, they do it all themselves. Now, if they ask for help, we will, but it doesn't happen often thank goodness. It's one thing to change a child's diaper on a changing table - then their little tushes need to be sparkling clean (imho), but as soon as they're using the bathroom on their own, we pretty much stay out of it. Although we are good teachers and caregivers, we are not MOM. (Which is one reason why I choose to be a SAHM.

I must have been confused; in any event, I reviewed my FAFSA which is right here on my desk, and about the only things it leaves out are retirement accounts and primary residence.

Interestingly, the bank representative who gave my group of parents of college-bound seniors their financial aid seminar said that one dodge some have used successfully is to have grandparents set up college savings accounts, which are definitely off the FAFSA radar.

Nope, life insurance and retirement plans are excluded, which is just about the only break you get.

What about money in tax deferred retirement plans, like 401(k)s and KEOGHs?
