how do i convince my husband to let me at least job-share so i can take care of our 3 month old dd? he grew up with his mom working & all his friend's moms working. we can afford it if we cut back on some things, but he doesn't want to cut back & just doesn't understand someone wanting to be a stay at home mom...it doesn't help mycause that the grandmothers will babysit. i'm so unhappy about having to go back to work...he wants me to work full time 1 more year & just doesn't get it! i feel like my heart is being ripped from my chest every time i hink about it.

"It doesn't take all day to nurse a baby."
Of course not LOL. HOwever, it's pretty hard to nurse a baby every 2-3 hours if mom is WOH for long periods of time.
"The proof is considered historical, rather than scientific. The knowledge that electrical sewing mnachines and industrial looms didn't exist 200 years ago is historical, not scientific knowledge."
Actually, when it comes to the very *real* work of mothering, the proof is both historical as well as scientific. And once again, I'm not talking about *recent* history.
How could someone, a teacher no less, totally miss not only the Industrial Revolution but also it's huge huge impacts on society?

"Lots of women DID have to take time out of housework to breastfeed,"
Hmm, how did they do the housework or the breastfeeding if they were WOH for long periods of time?
"You do less housework than women of the past had to. Far less."
And you as a *WOHM* also, "do less housework than women of the past had to. Far less."
BTW, what about the amount of very *real* mothering? Has the amount of very *real* mothering somehow changed dramatically as well?
"The modern ways of supervising children are just...modern."
Hmm, so you think that "supervising" = "nurturing" = "very real mothering"?
Humans figured that out....bottles of some sort have been around since at least

"Generally, it's best to read the actual study, rather than articles about the study."
Um, this is an abstract from the *actual* study, meaning no article, no middle man.
BTW, here it is again:
NICHD Early Child Care Research Network. (1997). Child care in the first year of life. Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, 43.
"Information on the use, patterning, and stability of nonmaternal child care during the first year of life was examined for 1,281 families in 10 study sites. The vast majority of infants (81%) experienced regular nonmateral child care during the first 12 months, with most starting prior to 4 months of age and enrolled for close to 30 hours per week. Fewer than one in five infants spent the entire first year at home with no supplemental care. Close to half of the infants were cared for by a relative when they first entered care. Infants in child care experienced, on average, more than two nonparental arrangements during the first year. The results reveal high reliance on infant care, very rapid entry into care post-birth, and substantial instability in care."
"All that link proves is that the source isn't reliable."
Care to prove how the source is unreliable?
"Blatant falsehood. Unless he's not counting the past thousand years or so far enough in the past to be "history."
Again, we are not talking simply about *recent* history, but rather history on a much grander scale/larger time frame.
"It is safe to assume that, over the millennia, some 99% of all these mothers each successfully breastfed and nurtured her own daughter, who successfully grew up and did the same thing. All their sisters who failed to reach maturity and reproduce dropped out of the picture. It follows that, over millions of years, this pedigree selectively and efficiently bred for success and survival in all the essential aspects of healthy mothering."
"The bible, while it does include stories that are mythical in nature, is also an historical text. "The Natural Child" is just a bunch of people typing out their opinions, and that's it."
Hmm, I would say that the *bible* is a work of fiction, meaning fictional, where as *The Natural Child* is a work of non-fiction, meaning non-fictional.
"Humans figured that out....bottles of some sort have been around since at least 1500bc...."
And...?
Are you suggesting that artificial feeding (especially formula feeding) via artificial feeding methods (bottle of some sort) has been the norm since 1500bc?
