how do i convince my husband to let me at least job-share so i can take care of our 3 month old dd? he grew up with his mom working & all his friend's moms working. we can afford it if we cut back on some things, but he doesn't want to cut back & just doesn't understand someone wanting to be a stay at home mom...it doesn't help mycause that the grandmothers will babysit. i'm so unhappy about having to go back to work...he wants me to work full time 1 more year & just doesn't get it! i feel like my heart is being ripped from my chest every time i hink about it.

My momcame up with a slogan for OB tampons ... I'll rephrase it in Haiku

Get OB tampons
No messy applicator
just messy finger

My dd did not go to daycare but she did attend preschool two mornings a week when she was 3 years old. Looking back, she did have chickin pox and a lot of colds that year. I am glad that when she started kindergarten the following year, when daily attendance is more important, that we had some of those diseases out of the way already.

Roseanne had a stand-up routine years ago about her annoying kids, the punch line was "I now understand why some animals eat their young".

the benefit of increased exposure to minor illnesses is fewer cases of some forms of cancer. How much clearer can it be? If you look at a large group of children that have never been in group care and compare them to an equal number of children that *have* been in group care, the children in no group care have more cases of some kinds of leukemia. Clearly, the "normal" rate, as you put it, of exposure to illnesses from playgroup, grocery store, etc is *not* sufficient to provide the protective effect seen with increased amounts of group care and increased exposure to minor illnesses.

The evidence that the illnesses confer the protection comes from the fact that children demonstrate similar rates of protection from other environments where they are exposed to more germs - homes with multiple older siblings and homes/farms with pets, etc. So being exposed to *more* minor illnesses early in childhoos - such as occurs with daycare - leads to *less* cases of cancer.

I think you are being purposefully obtuse.
