how do i convince my husband to let me at least job-share so i can take care of our 3 month old dd? he grew up with his mom working & all his friend's moms working. we can afford it if we cut back on some things, but he doesn't want to cut back & just doesn't understand someone wanting to be a stay at home mom...it doesn't help mycause that the grandmothers will babysit. i'm so unhappy about having to go back to work...he wants me to work full time 1 more year & just doesn't get it! i feel like my heart is being ripped from my chest every time i hink about it.

Which is exactly what I suggested she do in the first post. And was railed against for not being more supportive.

Sigh.

<,It is safe to assume that, over the millennia, some 99% of all these mothers each successfully breastfed and nurtured her own daughter, who successfully grew up and did the same thing.>>

That is, imo, a *HUGE* assumption.

I already posted a link that showed you were in the minority. That your definition was not the commonly accepted one.

Convenient that you ignored it. Here it is again.

And I already stated you are wrong. Because *our* system is not that way.

Below is an outline of my dd's On-Going Daily Summer Writing Activities. She is free to choose from any of the activities on a daily basis, or to come up with a new one depending on her ever-changing personal interests. BTW, she does her writing on loose leaf paper first. Next, dh or I help her to edit it. Then she writes the final draft in a corresponding notebooks or journal so that we always have a record of her work.

1. Draw & Write Journal (made by Lakeshore) - DD has been writing and illustrating a series of chapter books. One is about a dolphin and a beluga whale which has 9 chapters so far. Another is about some mysterious eggs that she finds, hatches, raises, and later gives to a science museum (it has 6 chapters so far).

2. Writing Prompt Journal (also made my Lakeshore) - DD writes stories using writing prompts such as: "I put on my scuba gear and..." or "I can do many things, but I really wish I knew how to...", or "When I grow up, I would really like to be a..."

3. Reader's Book Log (also made by Lakeshore) - As soon as dd has finished reading a book, she logs in in her book log. First she Maps the story by filling in basic information about the book such as: the Story's Title, Author, Main Characters, Setting, Main Events, Conclusion, etc. Then she does a Story Comparison between the the book she just read and a previous one. Next, she writes a Book Review. Finally, there is a Journal Page which she can use to journal (generally about her favorite part of the book).

4. Newspaper Writing (made by Discovery Toys) - Dd is writing her own newspaper with such headlines as: Something Important Happened Today!, A Great Place to Visit..., Animals make the News..., or Did you know that...?, etc.

5. Poetry Writing (decorated notebook) - Dd is a big fan of poetry. She has written over 50 poems using different kinds of styles/methods such as: shape poems, regular poems, Haiku, couplets (she go the idea from Isadora Quagmire from A Series of Unfortunate Events), seasonal poems, etc.

"And I already stated you are wrong. Because *our* system is not that way."

Oh really, so your school system *doesn't* use standardized testing, worksheets, workbooks, rote learning and memorization, etc. ?

And I suppose it *does* have a full daily arts program including: art, music, creative movement/dance, dramatic play, etc.?

Please elaborate :)

Certainly you're not suggesting that the national public schooling system is not in crisis? Do you really think that most public schools are doing an adequate job? And what, if that is the case, do you base that opinion on?

*MY* school is not *entirely dependent* upon standardization, in testing or other methods. They do standardized testing, but it isn't the only thing they use when determining curriculum.

<<, rote learning and memorization,>>

Haven't seen any of that yet.
