how do i convince my husband to let me at least job-share so i can take care of our 3 month old dd? he grew up with his mom working & all his friend's moms working. we can afford it if we cut back on some things, but he doesn't want to cut back & just doesn't understand someone wanting to be a stay at home mom...it doesn't help mycause that the grandmothers will babysit. i'm so unhappy about having to go back to work...he wants me to work full time 1 more year & just doesn't get it! i feel like my heart is being ripped from my chest every time i hink about it.

I see your point. We don't need 1 more thing to worry about.

Your post is as entertaining as it is clever, I'll definatley give you that LOL!

However, it's very clear that is a mockery of homeschooling, rather than a true portrayal.

You are obviously a highly intelligent, as well as creative individual with much to share and teach your children.

With that said, could you please give us a true portrayal as well? In other words, I'd really like to hear about your *real* homeschooling day :) TIA!

"I don't think one can refer to our educational system as a whole. The differences froms district to district are so great that a generalization doesn't apply."

And clearly I disagree :)

Our educational system is not a whole. There is no national standard or system beyond the basics of agreeing that all kids must learn X, Y and Z.

Why do you disagree?

When the BTK killer was arrested, there was much talk of "who? him?" He blended so well that he didn't blip on anybody's radar. I wonder if, given "how to recognize" tips, anyone would wonder if he fit the sociopath model?

I just have to ask......with all this reading, writing and homeschooling in the 5 other subjects that you do daily, when does your child have time to play? When do they fit in summer activities? I know between t-ball, swimming lessons, library story hour and bowling there is no way we could, nor would we want to fit in all that junk. Summer vacation is a time for kids to play and have fun with their friends. I know my kids, and all the other kids in the neighborhood, are outside from the time they get up until they go to bed. Certainly we read everyday, normally for about 20 minutes a day, but we are having trouble finishing up the summer skills packet from school because of all the time we are spending outside and playing - but we all have our priorities.

I send my kids on the bus because of safety concerns. I dont want them out in the parking lots afterschool. I also send them on the bus because they enjoy it, they get to spend time with their friends. My kids are quite able to supervise themselves on a 15 minute bus ride.

That WAS her real homeschooling day. Her entertainingly made point was that when your kids actually attend school, you are not under pressure to provide them with the basics. That leaves you free to re-name the things they would have been doing anyway as part of a "curriculum". Lots of kids spend the summer reading books and writing their own stories. I certainly did as a child. But my own mom was not so arrogant as to call that a "curriculum". Lots of kids also use educational software outside the classroom too. In your post where you outlines your "curriculum", it was nothing more than a relabeling of the things done by plenty of kids while not in school. Suzymom used the exact same relabeling tactic to show that anyone can play that game.

edited to add: although anyone can play the relabeling game, nobody can bring the brio quite like suzymom.

I bet (hope) that her dd has fun outdoors running and playing like any kid. And when she does, momfhk pats herself on the back for including gym and recess in her homeschooling curriculum when some schools have scaled those back.
