how do i convince my husband to let me at least job-share so i can take care of our 3 month old dd? he grew up with his mom working & all his friend's moms working. we can afford it if we cut back on some things, but he doesn't want to cut back & just doesn't understand someone wanting to be a stay at home mom...it doesn't help mycause that the grandmothers will babysit. i'm so unhappy about having to go back to work...he wants me to work full time 1 more year & just doesn't get it! i feel like my heart is being ripped from my chest every time i hink about it.

The reason I only take housework into account is because back then, there just wasn't enough time in the day for what you call the cery *real* work of mothering. Housework consumed nearly every waking hour. Think about it- just to get clothes women had to take care of sheep, sheer them, spin the wool into thread, weave the thread into cloth and sew the cloth into cloths. And that's just to get clothes! There wasn't TIME for what modern mothers do.

Are you talking about now or a couple 100 years ago?

"There is no scientific proof."

Exactly! Of course there is no scientific proof. Why? Because yet once again, we are talking about *opinions* here. Opinions, I might add, that cannot be backed up with scientific proof, hence the term *opinion*.

"Because it is obvious to anyone."

No, it is not obvious to anyone as opinions are clearly subjective, meaning dependent on the perceiver.

Fundraiser for MomHK to take some history classes or to send her to one of those PBS shows like Regency House or Colonial House?

I watched some

There are more categories than just "opinion" and "scientific proof".

"Where was I doing that?"

I didn't say you were doing that. I said how could you make such a comparison, considering that it is my contention that WAHM/SAHM are much more closely related than are WOHM/WAHM's.

"I was comparing a sahm in today's world to a sahm of 100+ years ago."

Wait a minute, I thought you said 200 years ago (see below)? Make up your mind LOL.

"You can't compare being a sahm now when a sahm 200 years ago...."

"What do THINK women on 18th century farms did all day? Read to their kids?"

Well, somebody had to nurse the infants and younger toddlers LOL.

"Are you talking about now or a couple 100 years ago? That will be two very different answers."

Actually, I'm not talking about *recent* history.
